Waxing and Sugaring Info
Pre Waxing Guide
Hair needs to be at least ¼” long. That’s about the length of a grain of rice. Which is equal to 2 weeks worth of hair growth after the last time you shaved.
Do not apply creams or lotions to the area being waxed the day of your appointment.
No sunbathing 48 hours before appointment. A sunburn can lead to lifting skin.
If you have a low pain tolerance take a couple of Tylenol or Ibuprofen 30-45 min prior to appointment. No aspirin as that is a blood thinner and may lead to bruising.
Wear loose fitting clothing the day of appointment to avoid irritation after wax
Certain medications may affect the results of waxing. Meds such as Retin-A, Revova, Differin, Accutane, blood thinners, and heart medication may make the skin too thin to wax. Please consult a physician if taking any of these medications.
If you are on your period, please use a tampon. Be aware, you are more sensitive to waxing on your period.
Do not trim the hair even if you think it is too long, let me be the judge. It can never be too long, it can only be too short.
Post Waxing Guide
Hands off. Keep hands away from freshly waxed skin, as this can encourage irritation or small pimples
Avoid tight fitting clothes or panties for the next few days to encourage air circulation in the area.
Avoid tanning beds, saunas or steam rooms for the next 48 hours.
Avoid hot showers. Skin will be very sensitive right after a wax and may feel like a sunburn if the shower is too hot.
Exfoliate. Starting 48 hours after a wax, use a sugar scrub or salt scrub to gently exfoliate the area. Repeat every 3-4 days. Be careful not to over exfoliate as this will cause too much irritation.
Fight the bumps. If you still get ingrowns even with exfoliating, try adding Tend Skin, sold here at the salon, to eliminate ingrowns.
Apply hydrocortisone cream, aloe, antibiotic ointment or lavender (anything calming and soothing) to calm the area.
Avoid bar soap as this leaves a film on the skin and may cause ingrowns.
Do not shave in between appointments. This will make the hair harder to remove. Schedule your next wax for 4-6 weeks and stay on a regular schedule for best results!
Sugaring
Sugaring as a form of hair removal that is believed to be the first ever way to remove unwanted hair, dating back to the ancient Egyptians. The sugar paste used is commonly made with sugar, lemon juice and water, or variations of such. The sugar paste we use is 100% organic and has anti-bacterial properties. The repetition of sugaring will sometimes permanently reduce hair growth. This is due to the sugar seeping down into the hair follicle and potentially damaging the follicle as the hair is removed. Sugaring is beneficial because it reduces the risk of getting ingrown hairs. It is also less painful than waxing because it removes the hair in the direction of growth rather than the opposite direction. Sugar paste also only sticks to the hair, not to the skin which reduces the chance for damage to the skin. Sugar paste is water-soluble which makes clean up a breeze.
Sugaring will help:
Eliminate ingrown hairs
Prevent new ingrown hairs
Improve skin tone and texture
Extract all hair types and textures
Sugaring will not:
Burn the skin as the sugar is not heated up
Damage dermal cells
Promote cross contamination
